    La revolución no euclidiana

    Get PDF

Agency and Interactivity in the Narrative Video Game 'What Remains of Edith Finch'; Exploring Rita Felski's

    Get PDF
In Hooked: Art and Attachment (2020), Rita Felski argues for the analysis of attachment to works of art, included that of the scholar’s towards the object of study. Although researchers in areas such as feminist or race studies have also practiced this kind of situated analysis, Felksi observes it is not a widespread practice yet. Moreover, an analysis that takes attachment into account can also be translated into a specific methodology to be applied both in the classroom setting as well as on research papers. This methodology has at its core a position of openness towards the work, of appreciation and of reading “with the grain” in order to allow it to speak for itself and convey the message it intends. This attitude take the opposite stance to that of the critical theory practiced in the last few decades. While the scholar should not abandon critical thinking practices, Felski suggests one should also take the work and its message at face value rather than jumping into the already worn mechanisms of unveiling and decoding. In order to test this methodology, I analyse a moment of detachment, rather than attachment, to the game What Remains of Edith Finch (Dallas 2017). It is a narrative videogame in which the player explores the family home of Edith Finch from a first person perspective. Felski applies her methodology to literature, music and films to demonstrate its versatility and, although they are not explictly mentioned, video games can also benefit from this theoretical framework. Therefore, I apply her theory of attachment to a controversial episode in the game and, rather than dismantling it after critical theories, I explore it through Felski’s methodology of openness. By accepting the premises under which the creative team renders this episode, its connection with the rest of the game becomes more aparent and the themes What Remains explores are reasserted.Universidad de Málaga. Decommissioning of offshore wind turbines

    Get PDF
Decommissioning is a key process in the offshore wind industry because all substructures, bottom fixed or floating, have to be removed and completely dismantled at the end of their service life. There is still no experience of decommissioning a floating wind substructure and only two very small offshore wind farms with bottom fixed platforms have already been decommissioned. Devising save and effective processes to dismantle wind offshore substructures is a challenge that has to be faced in civil engineering in near future

From the intestinal flora to the microbiome.

In this article, the history of the microbiota is reviewed and the related concepts of the microbiota, microbiome, metagenome, pathobiont, dysbiosis, holobiont, phylotype and enterotype are de ned. The most precise and current knowledge about the microbiota is presented and the met- abolic, nutritional and immunomodulatory functions are reviewed. Some gastrointestinal diseases whose pathogen- esis is associated with the intestinal microbiota, including in ammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and celiac disease, among others, are brie y discussed. Final- ly, some prominent and promising data with regard to the fecal microbiota transplantation in certain digestive illness are discussed

Psychological capital and entrepreneurship: A systematic literature review of a growing research agenda

    Get PDF
Purpose: Psychological resources are determinant for the entrepreneur's individual performance.Psychological capital has been seen as one of the pillars of entrepreneurship and this is one of thereasons that the study of the relationship between these two constructs is emerging. The primary focusof this article is to analyze the development in the literature on entrepreneurship and psychologicalcapital, as well as providing a set of avenues for future research. Design/methodology: This systematic review used the PRISMA Protocol and the VOS viewersoftware for cluster analysis. The articles gathered for this article cover the annual period from 2013 to2022 and allow the identification and analysis of the main themes on psychological capital andentrepreneurship.Findings: The systematic analysis brought to light integrative relationships between the concepts ofpositive psychological capital and entrepreneurship, which allowed the construction of an overview ofthis spectrum of study. This resulted in four large groups of analysis that point the direction of theliterature. The main contributions resulted in the presentation of principles and recent scientific ideaswhich consider psychological capital as a valuable resource for entrepreneurship.Originality/value: This systematic review of the literature contributes to a more robust and groundedunderstanding of this relationship. In addition, this research provides an incisive understanding ofpsychological capital and the entrepreneurship research agenda with the aim of being a starting point fordeepening knowledge about the synergies of studies on both themes. Finally, a set of future lines ofstudy is also proposedPeer Reviewe

Trophic Ecology during the Ontogenetic Development of the Pelagic Thresher Shark Alopias pelagicus in Baja California Sur, Mexico

    Get PDF
The trophic ecology of the Pelagic Thresher shark (Alopias pelagicus) was evaluated based on chemical ecology using stable isotope ratios of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) in the vertebrae and muscles. Individuals were caught between August 2013 and October 2019 on both the coasts of Baja California Sur, Mexico. In Bahía Tortugas, the mean vertebrae (n = 35) values were 12.72 ± 1.06‰ (δ15N) and −14.79 ± 0.61‰ (δ13C), while in muscles (n = 32) these values were 16.63 ± 0.76‰ (δ15N) and −17.18 ± 0.39‰ (δ13C). In Santa Rosalía, the mean vertebrae (n = 125) isotopic values were 14.4 ± 1.59‰ (δ15N) and −14.18 ± 0.51‰ (δ13C), while in muscles (n = 43), these values were 18.08 ± 0.96‰ (δ15N) and −16.43 ± 0.34‰ (δ13C). These results show higher δ15N values in Santa Rosalía as an effect of baseline isotopic differences between the two regions, whereas the δ13C values were lower in Bahía Tortugas, suggesting offshore ecological behavior (p 0.05), suggesting a high overlap between their isotopic niches. Therefore, Alopias pelagicus uses the same ecological niche throughout its life, and there is consistency between sexes. The mean trophic position for both tissues and regions was 4.5, which corresponds to a tertiary predator, without any differences between stages or sex. Due to their higher energetic needs, juveniles and females showed the greatest isotopic niche amplitude; thus, their ecological niche is the widest.Instituto Politécnico Nacional, Project SIP-IPN 2022057
